CA&S Group (“CA&S”), the dual-listed FMCG services group listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) and Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) and operating across Southern and East Africa, today announced that it has acquired a majority shareholding in Sunpac, a long-established distributor and turnkey route-to-market partner to leading international brand owners and retailers. The transaction, announced via SENS earlier today, remains subject to customary
regulatory approvals.
Established in 1967, Sunpac has developed a vertically integrated operating model spanning global sourcing, regulatory compliance, retail listings, national distribution, merchandising and promotional execution. The business supports both retailers and brand owners in building and growing brands in-market, including the development and management of private and confined label programmes.
The acquisition strengthens CA&S’s capability set across the FMCG value chain and introduces specialised global sourcing and brand-management platform to the Group. In particular, Sunpac adds established expertise in the private and confined label segment – an area of steady structural growth
as retailers increasingly focus on differentiated assortments. Private label currently represents over 20% of FMCG sales value in some retailers in South Africa and is expected to continue expanding.
The transaction is aligned with CA&S’s long-term strategy of deepening its route-to-market and execution capabilities while maintaining its partnership-led model. Sunpac will continue to operate as an autonomous business under its existing leadership team.
Commenting on the transaction, Duncan Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of CA&S Group, said:
“Sunpac brings a specialised sourcing and brand-management capability that complements our existing platform and strengthens our exposure to structurally growing segments of the FMCG market. The transaction is strategically aligned, operationally complementary and supports our focus on disciplined, long-term value creation.”
Shaun Laffer, Executive Chairman of Sunpac, added:
“CA&S’s investment provides Sunpac with a long-term strategic partner that understands our sector and operating model. We will continue to run the business independently, building on our strong retailer relationships and category expertise, while benefiting from the broader capabilities of the CA&S platform.”
Further updates will be provided as the regulatory process progresses.
