In September, we brought clients, partners and colleagues together for Africa Beyond Borders: Growth Conversations – a day in which we explored where growth will come from next, and what it will take to unlock it.
It is a question that feels particularly relevant as we move into the final quarter of the year – a critical period for retail.
Retail activity accelerates, shopper expectations rise, and the pressure on supply chains, field teams, distribution networks and digital channels intensifies. Brands have a short window in which to be available, visible and compelling.
And increasingly, simply being present is not enough.
Today’s growth environment is more complex. Consumers are moving more fluidly between physical and digital channels. Value remains under pressure. Route-to-market models are evolving. Data is playing a greater role in everyday decision-making. And across Africa, significant consumer opportunity often sits in markets, channels and communities that require very different approaches to reach effectively.
These were the broader realities behind the conversations at our event.
Rather than viewing growth as a single initiative, Africa Beyond Borders explored the connections that increasingly unlock it: between insight and execution; digital and physical commerce; innovation and route to market; and regional scale and local understanding.
Because growth is realised in the detail.
It happens when the right product is available in the right outlet. When a promotion is executed as intended. When a supply chain responds quickly enough to demand. When data highlights an opportunity early enough to act on it. And when a brand understands not just the market, but the very different consumers, customers and channels within it.
For CA&S Group, this is also shaping how we continue to evolve.
Our businesses have been operating in African markets for decades, giving us deep operational capability and local knowledge. At the same time, we are investing in technologies, data capabilities, digital commerce platforms and complementary specialist businesses that increasingly sit alongside that traditional execution strength.
As we head into the festive season – when every store visit, delivery, promotion, shopper interaction and purchase takes on even greater importance – connection becomes the difference between activity and impact.
Connecting data to decisions. Strategy to execution. Brands to customers. And opportunity to the places where it can become real growth.
That is where the conversation matters most: in what happens next.
